Welcome to Delhi Law Chambers, Melbourne

Delhi Law Chambers (DLC) Melbourne is an Australian Law firm exclusively practising Indian Law operating from Melbourne Victoria. We deal with all types of legal/para legal issues you may have in India. In many cases you may not even be required to travel to India. Along with Melbourne, we have offices in Chandigarh and Delhi. As NRI or Australian of Indian descent, your issue may be in any part of India, we can arrange to have you covered, giving you all the answers locally.

Of late many NRIs have been caught up in the Anti-Dowry cases – when they went back to India looking for suitable partners for their sons and daughters. Sadly some of those pursuits by NRI parents, of finding Indian partners for their children ended up in courts. Surfacing of allegations of abuse asking for dowry were quite regular occurrence. A nightmare for parents and their Aussie (overseas) born children followed, exacerbating their suffering having to worry about Indian courts’s rulings every now and then. In many cases things to years to settle and wounds took decades to heal.

With DLC operating from Melbourne dealing with all your legal / para legal problems in India right from here, the pain and suffering and the clouding of information will be eased from day one. Should you have any such issues, contact DLC immediately.

You may just need a document drafted – like Power of Attorney or Pre-Nuptial Agreement or require representation in a Dowry Demand Allegation matter, it can all be done from here. Or it may be a simple Property Investment effort gone wrong and you do not know where to start, we can definitely help you.

Anti-Dowry Law

The law in India had to be amended to suitably and effectively deal with not only with cases of Dowry Death but also cruelty to married woman by their in laws. Legal experts felt that willful conduct of the husband or any other relative of the husband as is likely to drive the woman to commit suicide or cause grave  physical or mental injury to her, and harassment of woman by her husband or by any relative of her husband with a view to coercing her or any of her relatives to meet any unlawful demand for property should be punishable as cruelty, ...the offence as cognizable...

Have Legal / Paralegal issues in India? DLC will have you covered.

Who is an NRI?

If you are an Indian but now resident of another country or territory and not usually domiciled in India although holding an Indian passport, you are deemed to be an NRI for all legal purposes in India.

If in any tax year you have lived in India for more that 182 days, then for all purposes you can claim to be an Indian and not an NRI. Conversely, if you have traveled to India multiple times but your total stay in India – adding up all the visits in that year does not add up more than 182 days, you are deemed NRI.

There are some special rules which may become applicable if you are an NRI be it tax concessions or tax payable in India on assets appreciating  in a tax year in India.

Proclaimed Offenders

Many NRIs have been involved in and/or framed in many legal issues back home in India. Before they know it, the police cases against them get registered – and unattended – because they have left India – keep proceeding. Ultimately – they are declared POs or Proclaimed Offenders and Absconders running the risk of being arrested next time they travel to India.

If you are involved or have been framed in a matrimonial/property or any other dispute and have been declared PO (Proclaimed Offender) by authorities in India, you need assistance to sort your mess out. You may be living in Australia thinking things will go away – you are wrong.

To sort out the issues, contact DLC today.

NRI Life

The compulsions of expatriate life make it difficult for many NRIs to handle situations that are beyond their reach and control. Help may not be that easy and forthcoming as there are not many doors to knock. If at all any options are available, the credibility and reliability of such sources and the integrity of the people behind such ventures would often raise many question marks.

Non-resident Indians easily fall prey to machinations of unscrupulous entities and individuals and consequently lose their hard earned money as they do not have a forum for proper counsel and advice. The problems that an NRI faces may be property related, matrimonial or financial disputes etc.

Have any issues, Contact DLC today.
